Because here's the shift: today, risk is the real status symbol. It signals courage. Conviction. Vision. Playing it safe, meanwhile, has quietly become the most dangerous move in the game.
Need proof? Look at Louis Armstrong. At a time when Black musicians were expected to stay in the background—literally and musically—he stepped out front, soloing with raw, unstructured energy. He wasn’t just breaking musical norms—he was risking ridicule, career exile, and racial backlash to redefine what jazz could be.
Armstrong turned improvisation into an art form. He didn’t just change jazz—he changed how musicians saw themselves. As creators. As leaders. As voices.
